Commonly Asked Questions

How does Electrolysis for hair removal work?

Electrolysis is the technique and science of permanent hair removal. A small amount of electricity or a solution of sodium hydroxide is introduced to the base of the hair follicle (hair papilla) in order to destroy the root of the hair. Electrolysis is the only method of hair removal considered permanent by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

There are three methods of Electrolysis

  • Thermolysis applies alternating current to the probe at the base of the hair in order to create heat and destroy the hair follicle. This is the most commonly used method because it is very fast and effective.

  • Blend method is a combination of both galvanic and thermolysis in one process. The heat from thermolysis, heats up the chemical created in the galvanic chemical reaction and speeds up the process to destroy the hair follicle. This method is slightly slower than thermolysis but is very effective and often used to treat difficult areas.

  • Galvanic was the first form of electrolysis. It uses direct current to cause a chemical reaction within the follicle in order to disable the hair root.

How is electrolysis performed?

A very fine probe is inserted into the natural opening in the skin (hair follicle.) There is no piercing of the skin. Once the probe is inserted, a controlled current of electricity (Galvanic,) or a radio energy at a designated high frequency (Thermolysis) is administered to the hair papilla in order to cut off blood supply to the hair follicle and permanently stop hair growth. After the papilla has been destroyed, the electrologist is able to slide out the hair with bulb and sheath intact, without any resistance.

In what cycles do we prefer to treat the hair follicles for optimal results?

Hair growing during Anagen phase, is most sought after because it is growing at its greatest depth. Hair can be removed at any phase, but the Electrologist will have greater success permanently removing the hair during anagen phase

What does electrolysis feel like?

Every person will have a different experience. Various areas of the body experience different sensations. The feeling has been compared to a small sensation of heat within the skin or a tingling sensation

What type of reaction could my skin have?

You may experience some mild redness, small bumps, slights swelling, potential pin point scabbing, and possibly bruising after your session. Using Aloe Vera gel can help prevent tiny dot scabs from forming and allow the skin to heal more quickly. If scabs do form, do not pick them off. Scabs are natures Band-aids, let them fall off naturally.

How many sessions will it take to notice results?

Electrolysis is done in a series of sessions to remove different hair growth cycles. Therefore, it is best when sessions are done on a regular basis. The number of sessions varies with each client. Factors that affect the total session time include; the amount of hair to be removed, the coarseness of the hair, your previous temporary methods of hair removal, your individual physiological factors, hormonal changes, family hair growth patterns and medications.

How do you keep your office environment and equipment hygienic?

Here at Everclear Electrology, we wear disposable gloves and protective eyewear. We offer disposable eyewear, face coverings, and disposable booties for your session. We utilize sterile, single-use, medical grade probes. We clean all non-disposable tools thoroughly, and then sterilize them in the autoclave. We sanitize all office equipment between each client to ensure the most hygienic session possible. Bed coverings are changed between each client and laundered between each use.

What areas do we preform electrolysis on?

Here at Everclear Electrolysis LLC. we preform work on entire body, male or female.
For more sensitive areas we can recommend a numbing cream to help desensitize the area.
